11 Battalions of central forces arrive in Orissa for anti-naxal operation says CM

The Chief Minister has reviewed the anti-Maoist strategy in state in the Orissa Secretariat on Wednesday. It has been decided to ‘strategically deploy’ central paramilitary forces in the Maoist affected districts in the state. Besides this, top cops and Superintendent of Police have been asked to closely monitor developments and keep the law and order situation under control at the naxal dominated areas in the state .

The Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik told the mediapersons after the reviewing the law and order situation in the state that the Police personnel have been instructed to keep matters under control.11 battalions of central paramilitary forces have already arrived in the state for the mega joint anti-naxal operation. Five battalions of Border Security Force (BSF) and four battalions of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed at the Maoist affected areas while the state government has decided to station two battalions of CRPF at North Orissa.

Basing on the strategy of the Centre the forces would be engaged for the joint anti-naxal operation. Activities undertaken to contain naxalism would be strengthened further. Forces are being mobilized and we will see how we can get advantage out of the deployments.


Among others Chief Secretary Bijaya Patnaik, Principal Secretary of Home department U.N. Behera, Director General of Police Manmohan Praharaj, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Aditya Prasad Padhi and other high level officials and Police Officers were present.
