Be credible, efficient and humane, CM to cops
BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday exhorted Police Commissionerate to enhance its professional capability to face new challenges of public order and security.
“While police need to be firm in the enforcement of law, it must acquire a human face and helping attitude,” he said here at the second commemoration function of Police Commissionerate.
Given the rapidly expanding Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the need was to provide a police administration which was credible, efficient and people-friendly. In the last two years, the Government has tried to adequately empower the police to achieve the mission. As many as 11 new police stations were sanctioned for the Commissionerate.
Besides a special security battalion comprising over 1,000 personnel has also been sanctioned for security of the Capital and its vicinity, he said lauding the Commissionerate of Police for its work.
Addressing the gathering, Director- General of Police Manmohan Praharaj said, the urban policing system has achieved the parameters set for it in the last two years without any dislocation.
Emphasising the need for greater interaction with the people, the DGP wanted community policing to be put in place soon.
Police Commissioner BK Sharma said, the two-year-old system had its share of ups and downs but has risen to the occasion when demanded. “We have tried to make it more humane and people-oriented,” he said. The Chief Minister gave away prizes to meritorious policemen of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack on the occasion. Earlier, he received salute from the parade at the OSAP 7th Battalion Ground.
