CM orders officials to provide electric supply to BPL families of slums

The Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has directed the Urban Development and Energy department to take immediate action to provide electric supply to the BPL families of the slums.

The Chief Minister has inaugurated an awareness workshop of Biju Urban Electrification Yojana here on Thursday. The Chief Minister expressed that the state government introduced the Biju Gram Jyoti Youna during the year 2007-08 and providing electric supply to the rural peoples. On the otherhand the Rajib Gandhi Electrification Youna also going on. But the Urban slum peoples are deprived of this. They can be provided the electric supply by Biju Urban Electrification Yojana. For this projects Rs 1 crores to Municipal Corporations, Rs 50 lakh to Municipalities and Rs 30 lakh provided to every NACs. The Chief Minister has adviced the employees of the Municipal Corporations, Municipalities, and NACs to start the works of the project immediately.

Urban Development Minister Badrinarayan Patra said that the state government has started providing electric supply to the peoples of the urban areas out of state governments own fund. A committee has been framed for the purpose. MLAs,MPs and Collectors are members of this committee. The peoples of about 3 municipal Corporations, 37 Municipalities and 63 NACs will be benefitted in the scheme.

Energy Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Naik said Orissa will be count as a surplus state in the production of energy by the year 2012. All effort are going on to solve the low voltage problem. Action has been taken for construction of high power grid. Steps are being taken to complete by the next summer season.

Secretary of Urban Development Deo Ranjan Singh, Secretary of Energy Pradip Jena, employees of the Municipal Corporations, Municipalities and NACs were present.
