Naveen Patnaik orders early settlement of tribal land disputes

Worried over tribal upsurge at Narayanpatna in Naxal-hit Koraput district, the Orissa government on Saturday directed the revenue administration to take special steps to detect cases of unauthorized occupation of tribal lands by non-tribals.
The direction was issued by chief minister Naveen Patnaik after he reviewed the situation arising out of the demands made by Chasi Mulia Sangh at Narayanpatna in Koraput.
The revenue administration was asked to settle cases as per law in a time-bound manner, Patnaik informed the State Assembly after returning from Koraput.
The long standing issues of tribals relating to the forest land will also be resolved after following the due process of law, he said.
Earlier in the week, the angry tribals had taken law into their hands by attacking non-tribal landlords and forcibly ploughing over 500 acre of land in possession of non-tribals in Narayanpatna area in Koraput district.
