Naveen Patnaik reviews progress of TRIPTI, NRLM projects

The Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik reviewed the progress of Targeted Rural Initiatives for Poverty Termination and Infrastructure (TRIPTI) and National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) on Friday in the Orissa Secretariat Conference hall. TRIPTI is implemented by Orissa Poverty Reduction Mission (OPRM) , which is a society under Panchayati Raj Department and funded by World Bank.

The project has been initiated in March 2009 in ten districts with 38 selected blocks covering 1020 Gram Panchayats and 8369 villages. The project aims at enhancing the socio economic status of poor , specially women and disadvantage target groups. TRIPTI has so far completed with situational assessment in 2276 villages of 346 GPs with active community participation. TRIPTI has organised 15,904 house holds in to 1323 newly formed SHGs till June , 2010.

For the current year it has been planned to complete situational assessment process in remaining all674 GPs ,organizing 3800 new SHGs of poor and extremely vulnerable groups ,strengthening 5000 existing SHGs organised by Mission Saktiand other agencies, organizing 2000 cluster level forum consisting of 5-15 SHGs strengthening 190 GP level Federations which will be further disburse loan to member of SHGs. Skill development and placement to 2000rural youths ,initiating value chain in three livelihood sub-sectors etc. are also been planned under TRIPTI.

Union Ministry of Rural Development is going to launch National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) replacing the existing (Swarna Jayanti Grama Swarojgar Yojana) SGSY programme. The aim and object of National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) to reduce poverty through promotion of diversified and skilled self employment opportunities resulting in appreciable increase in income of rural poor on sustainable basis. This NRLM project is likely to be implemented by October 2 Gandhi Jayanti.

Minister of Panchayati Raj Prafulla Samal, Chief Secretary Tarunkanti Mishra, and other senior officials were present.
