Naveen Patnaik to attend Chief Ministers’ Conference on Internal Security.
Naveen Patnaik today leaves for New Delhi to attend Chief Ministers’ Conference on Internal Security on tomorrow. Before leaving to New Delhi Patnaik says to media that he will urge the Centre to declare five more districts as Maoist-infested and to provide funds under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme for strengthening the police force.
Besides, he would also demand the Centre for inclusion of the five districts under the SRE scheme to help accelerate the anti-Maoist operations by strengthening the police force, said a senior official of the home department. The chief minister will also draw the attention of the prime minister the issue of providing two dedicated helicopter for assisting the joint operation by Central Paramilitary forces and the state police during exigencies.
Along with CM, the home secretary and DG of police are scheduled to leaving for New Delhi to attend the Internal Security meeting headed by prime minister Manmohan Singh on February 2.
It should be noted that the Conference of Chief Ministers on internal security will be held tomorrow.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Conference. The Conference will review the security situation in the country and focus on other wide-ranging issues related to internal security, such as filling up of vacancies against the sanctioned strength of police forces; strengthening of counter-terrorism capabilities; strengthening of the intelligence wing; economic offences; implementation of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS); police reforms; coastal security; border management and Left Wing Extremism (LWE). A separate session will deal with LWE issues.
The Conference would also review the Action Taken on the recommendations of the last Chief Ministers’ Conference held on 07.02.2010.
