Orissa CM Naveen Patnaik says recommendation of 13th Finance Commission unfortunate

The Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik says recommendation of the 13th Finance Commission are unfortunate . The Chief Minister expressed disappointment over recommendation of the 13th Finance Commission. He said recommendation of the 13th Finance Commission are unfortunately below our expectations. State's share is reduced from 5.16 to 4.78 that is a reduction of 0.38%. Our proposal for adopting a criterion like population below the poverty line, ST and SC population, and Tax effort has not been taken in to consideration by the Commission which will hamper development needs of the state."

State Finance Minister Prafulla Ghadai too was critical of the 13th Finance Commission’s treatment towards Orissa. “Even though the 13th finance panel has granted money for some of the projects demanded by us earlier, but it has set certain tough conditions to avail the funds,” Ghadei said.

The state Congress, however, welcomed the 13th finance commission’s grants for Orissa.
