Orissa Government to set up special newborn care units in district headquarters

Orissa Government decides to set up special newborn care units in all district headquarters by 2012. A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the State Secretariat on Monday. Now only eight born care units are operating in the State.

The child mortality rate stands at 69 per 1000 and the maternal mortality stands at 55 per 1000. The State is planning to reduce the child mortality rate to 30 by 2012. Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Bijay Patnaik, Secretary Health Anu Garg and others were present on the occasion.
