Orissa to be recognized as hub of higher education says Chief Minister

Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday inaugurating a new building of the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) in the campus of the Institute of Physics here. He said Orissa will soon be recognised as a hub of higher education and research for the entire country. Mr. Patnaik said his Government was striving for development of higher education and establishment of high-quality educational institutions so that the State emerged as a major hub in this sector.
The classes of the new IIT commenced last week. IIIT, set up by the government with support from industrial houses, has also started functioning. The University College of Engineering (UCE) has Burla has been upgraded to a unitary university while steps are taken at the government engineering colleges at Berhampur and Bhawanipatna. Similarly, the Centre has been moved to give a central university at Koraput. A National Law University will also be set up in Cuttack soon. These apart, many well-known industrial houses have also evinced keen interest to take part in the higher education revolution in the sate, Mr Patnaik said.

Among others, NISER Director Prof TK Chandrashekhar, NISER Board of Governs member J Maharana and Higher Education Secretary Madhusudan Padhee also spoke.
