School health programme for orissa

Report by Dipti Ranjan Kanungo, Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launches the state-wide School Health Programme at Dutipada School in Kandhamal district. The programme will provide health service to about 58 lakh school students in the state. About 58 lakh students of 60,000 residential and non-residential schools in all the districts of the state will be benefited by the \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\' School Health Programme \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'.
Under the programme students from standard one to ten of schools run by all departments would get at least two health check ups in a year. They would also get treatment for minor ailments before being referred to hospitals for major problems. A sum of Rs 12.29 crore is sanctioned for this year for the programme . Each students under the scheme will be provided with a health card. To meet the accidental expences every school will be provided Rs 10,000 untied fund every year.Every school will open health service information centre and Health library.
On the occasion the Chief Minister distributed cycles to the Asha Workers and for better health service of the rural peoples the Chief Minister also inaugurated seven mobile health unit.
Minister of Health Prasanna Kumar Acharya, Minister of School and Mass Education Pratap Jena, Member of Parliament Rudra Madhab Ray and MLA of Phulbani Debendra Kahar were present .
