Science awards given away
Professor Lalit Mohan Patnaik and Prof Gyanadeb Maharana received the Orissa Science Academy award for 2007 from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here today.While Patnaik is the Vice-Chancellor of Pune-based Defence Institute of Advanced Technology which is a deemed university, Maharana is a scientist in Bhubaneswar- based Institute of Physics. The academy award known as the Biju Patnaik award contains a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh and a citation.The Chief Minister gave away the Samanta Chandrasekhar award to Dr Anant Bandhu Das, Dr Atmaram Mishra and Prof Ramnath Mishra on this occasion.The Orissa young scientist award was received by Dr Rabindra Kumar Mishra and Dr Subhransu Samantray. Popular science writer award was given to Kalyani Das, Mayadhar Swain and Dr Bhagabat Prasad Das.Senior scientists Profs Kulamani Samal, Sadananda Tarasia and Anadi Charan Das were felicitated by the Chief Minister on the occasion. Minister of State for Science and Technology Ramesh Majhi, Secretary in the Science and Technology Department SP Thakur and academy president Prof Basudev Kar attended the function.
