Delhi Oriya Students' Association (DOSA) members meet CM Naveen Patnaik

Delhi Oriya Students' Association (DOSA) on23.04.2010 Friday evening met Hon'ble Chief Minister of Orissa Sri Naveen Patnaik at Delhi. DOSA conveyed its sincere thanks to the CM for his dynamic leadership in making Orissa one of the vibrant and rapidly progressing state of the country.Mr. Patnaik , an alumnus of Delhi University was also invited to visit DU in future.

DOSA made 3 important demands before the CM , such as

1. REESTABLISHMENT OF ORISSA STUDENTS' HOSTEL at Delhi

There was an Orissa Students' Hostel on rented accomodation at B/A-5, Shalimarbagh, Delhi adjascent to North Campus of Delhi University maintained by Govt. of Orissa , catering the need of meritorious Oriya students studying in different colleges of Delhi University. However the hostel no longer exists, thus creating numerous difficulties for students coming from Orissa. The then Chief Minister of Orissa Late Biju Patnaik had shown his concern to this problem of Oriya students and had reqquested then Lt. Governor of Delhi to allot 5 acres plot near Delhi University to build a Hostel along with a Cultural Centre and Library. Sir, due to inadequate hostel acomodation presently a large number of Oriya Students in Delhi University are staying outside and facing huge difficulties. Also a large number of meritorious Oriya students are not joining DU due to lack of Hostel accomodation. Therefore there is the need of reestablish the Hostel and name it as BIJU PATNAIK ORISSA STUDENTS' HOSTEL.

2. TO SET UP A CULTURAL CENTRE CUM LIBRARY ALONG WITH THE HOSTEL

Though Orissa is internationaly famous for its rich cultural heritage and we the oriya populace in Delhi have been promoting our culture on regular basis at International Level, we do not have any physical infrastructure like a Cultural Centre. However there are Cultural Centres of most of the states e.g. Delhi Tamil Sangam Auditorium, Gujrati Samaj Auditorium etc.

Simillarly a large number of students, research scholars, academicians, professionals and other institutions are deprived of finding Oriya literatures, journals etc. due to lack of a full fledged library of Orissa. Setting up a library will promote Oriya language and culture at national capital among international mass. Hence there is urgent need to set up a CULTURAL CENTRE CUM LIBRARY inside the proposed BIJU PATNAIK ORISSA STUDENTS' HOSTEL COMPLEX near Delhi University.

3. TO SET UP A HIGHER EDUCATION CELL OF GOVT OF ORISSA IN DELHI

In recent years Orissa has proved itself as one of the hubs for Higher Education in this country. Also Orissa Govt.'s inititaive in establishing a Higher Education Task Force in Orissa is highly aprreciated and praiseworthy. This effort will certainly give Orissa's Higher Education a new shape.

In order to promote the higher Education opportunities in Orissa among the students across the globe, there is an urgent requirement of a Higher Education Cell of Govt of Orissa at National Capital, which at the same time will serve the need of Oriya Students, who are interested to come to Delhi and NCR to persue their higher education. Therefore Orissa Govt. should set up a ORISSA HIGHER EDUCATION CELL in Delhi.

In all the above three Delhi Oriya Students' Association will provide all possible support to the Govt. of Orissa.

Hon'ble CM Sri Naveen Patnaik not only assured all possible steps for the above demands he also promised proper follow up actions so that all these institutions or establishments do start in Delhi. He assured us that the demands of students and youths of Orissa will be given priority and as these are the genuine concerns his Govt. will take necessary action .
The 6 member delegation included Tejeswar Parida, President, DOSA , Dr. Nityananda Agasti, Ex-President, DOSA, Mr. Sushanta ku. Pal , Gen. Secy. , DOSA, Ms. Neha Swain, Jt. Secy., DOSA , Irasish Acharya, Executive Member, DOSA and Neelam Jena, Executive Member, DOSA.
