In yet another ‘Jan Sampark’ padayatra staged by ruling BJD in city on Saturday, the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik once again alleged that the Congress-led UPA government is not extending helping hand to his Government for bringing development in the State.
Addressing a public rally at Patharbandh Slum near Satsangbihar on the 8th day of the BJD’s 10-day “Public Relations” campaign, the Chief Minister said although the Centre has a big role to play for the development of the State, it has not shown any interest for the same in last six years since it came to power.
“The Congress-led UPA Government has not given a single project to our State in last six years since it came to power. The UPA Government is following a few particular yardsticks to release aids and assistance to other States, it did not apply the same in case of Odisha. Rather it followed a set of discriminatory rules,” he said.
He enticed the gathering saying that his Government has taken up a lot of welfare programmes for the development of the State. “The BJD is meant for all round development of the State. Besides, pro-poor schemes like ‘Mo Kudia’, ‘Madhubabu Pension Yojana’, Biju Gram Jyoti Yojan, Biju KBK Yojan, Biju Gajapati and Biju Kandhamal Yojana and Rs 2 per kg rice Yojana, we have taken lot of programes for development of tribals in our State,” he said.
He added that his Government has adopted many programmes under Mission Shakti to empower women making them economically self reliant.
Coming down on Centre’s step motherly attitude, he said,“ the Centre is only shedding crocodile tears when it comes to saving the State against natural disasters like flood, drought and cyclone or promoting its interests. When it releases huge sums to other States at the time of natural calamities, it gives very negligible assistance to Odisha even if it faces disasters of greater dimensions,”.
Among others, MP Prasanna Patsani, MLAs-Bijay Mohanty, Bhagirathi Badajena, Ashok Chandra Panda, BJD general secretary Narendra Swain and BMC Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena spoke on the occasion. |
